How to wash and take care of a Goose Down Jacket

Jun 06, 2022

Goose down is a delicate product and, to preserve it carefully, it is important to know how to wash and store it properly.

If it does not suffer particular damage, the bed down can be safely washed once a year before being stored; frequent washing is not necessary to keep it fresh. To achieve better performance, we recommend gently shaking the down often and airing it out to restore volume and fluffiness to the feathers.

If you notice dust on the surface, we suggest removing it with a soft-bristled brush. We advise against beating the goose down vigorously to avoid breaking the feathers inside.

  • The recommended washing temperature is 40°; moderate temperatures help prevent damage to the outer fabric.
  • Dry cleaning at the laundry is allowed, carefully following the washing instructions.
  • Use gentle soaps and plenty of water to ensure all soap traces are removed. Avoid using chlorine-based detergents that can irreparably damage the feathers.
  • Spin thoroughly to remove as much water as possible.
  • Tumble drying at medium/low temperatures is allowed. We recommend drying down items outdoors in an upright position. Always keep down items in the shade to prevent yellowing of the outer fabric.

Use or store the bed down only when completely dry. We recommend keeping the down in a dry place inside a cotton bag. Zenoni&Colombi, along with its down products, provides a practical dustproof bag for their storage.

Do not store goose down in plastic bags or vacuum-sealed bags to avoid damaging the feather filling.
